Laser hair removal can you shave

Simply put, it works like this: With lighter skin types, a cosmetic medical-grade laser transmits a concentrated beam of light directly into the pigment of your hair follicles. With darker skin, the laser is attracted to the blood supply to the hair follicle.

The laser then destroys and stunts the hair growth with both modalities. Laser hair removal is considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore is governed by strict regulations. Before booking your treatment, always ask if the technicians are qualified and that the equipment is TGA approved. We cannot treat you if you have had sun exposure within two weeks of your laser hair removal treatment as laser will sizzle any pigment on your skin. This means that if you are sunburned, or even just tanned, you may need to reschedule your appointment.

The root of the hair must be present in the follicle for the laser to identify it, so avoid waxing, epilating, use of depilatory creams or anything that might disturb the hair follicle.

Instead, shave the treatment area hours before your appointment. When it comes to the day of your treatment you need to make sure you are going au natural on your body.

This goes for 24 hours after your appointment, too except for recommended products! Wait days to exfoliate after treatment. Watch out for hair shedding.

Several days after the laser treatment the affected hair will begin to shed. Some people mistake this for hair growth and quickly reach for the razor. Before you shave, scrape gently against the hair.

Track your new shaving habits. Needing to shave less often is a sign that the treatments are working. If you shave too quickly you may irritate the skin even more, so waiting at least three or four days after your treatment is usually ideal.

A few days following your laser hair removal treatment, you may notice your hair shedding. This is completely normal and is a sign the treatment worked. The hairs that fall out are the ones that were damaged by the laser and will no longer come back. Before you shave, consider exfoliating the skin to get all of the damaged hair out.

Each beam takes seconds or even less to treat a large area. It will take you around one minute to fully treat the upper lip and other small areas. Considering the impact of this can have on a person, many say the cost of laser hair removal is reasonable.

If you are having an aesthetic treatment like microdermabrasion after laser hair removal then this gap between appointments is especially important. Some clients report a minor irritation after the treatment — if the irritation continues or you are feeling anxious then please contact us immediately.

We also advise that you shave in between your sessions, for the best results, make sure to shave no more than 24 hours before you come in to see us as shorter hair makes it easier for the beams to locate hair follicles. Often, laser hair removal requires multiple treatments especially if you need the treatment on a larger area like the back or the legs. Waxing works by pulling the hair straight from its roots under the skin.
